I'm gonna go with Ether Prodigy or Offering of Blood. Both went from godly to a pretty unusable status.

Nerfing skills that don't need to be nerfed, is teh stupid.

b4 anyone screams Overpowered, let it be known if you were going to scream OP on this, You are in the same intelligence league as me(and wrong this time so ha.), perhaps even worse....and thats not a good thing.

The LoD nerf is probably the most egregious one. Tons of ways to nerf it, and the method chosen is to utterly destroy the skill by nerfing the cast time.

I'll give ANet the benefit of the doubt Ether Renewal nerf; we were n00b @ GW, they were n00b @ skill balancing.

Other good candidates:
- The 133% attack speed cap mechanic change that was aimed at IWAY (previously it was capped at 150%, pointless change...)

- The second Gale nerf (cutting the length of the KD to 2 seconds). The original nerf from 5 energy to 10 was desperately needed, compelling Warriors to choose between a touch range KD for 5 and a ranged KD for 10. We all know what they chose. However, the second nerf made Gale useless even to a caster; might as well remove the skill entirely.

- Prot Bond (this got hit too hard; there would have been ways to make it viable for PvP but not PvE, see Spirit Bond)

Remember Verata's sacrifice? Every MM used to use it, now I don't think you could pay someone to put it on their bar. That's probably the worst nerf in terms of severity.

In terms of bad game design, I'd probably say the aggressive refrain was the worst nerf, because it disincentivizes the skill in a stupid way; -20 a para can live with, but having your monk heroes constantly spam condition removal on you is problematic. The skill ends up unused not because of its own merits, but because of the way in which the AI reacts to it, which is Bad Game Design.

LoD, usless in pvp now.
HotO, well it did need to get toned down,but it didn't need to get nerfed into oblivion.
those are the only ones I can think off right now.

Hmm... I miss Blackout and Gale. And boonprots... those were the days!
Though, in all honesty, I wouldn't say they were bad updates... I'm just being nostalgic. Everything else, deserved it.

Anyho....
It'd be nice if Inspiration was to make a reappearence, it's a sad day when an attribute-less Glyph is better than an entire line.

And I'd also like Earth Magic to do something as well. Right now, I quite like where the ele is - a decent mix of offensive punch and support/defensive options (MB + RI with wards/flash, BSurge with Rage and Splinter).
The only one never really seen is Earth (asides from a few niche PvE uses) - the only truly worthwhile skills, the Wards, work just fine at mid-spec on any other element. Or a necro, or mes.

I have to say I like most skill changes. They make you rethink the way you play regulary, which I think is a nice feature.

One of the few things I miss was when Vile Miasma got moved from Blood to Death. I did not have the impression it was an abused skill, or even particulary used at all, but it had several nice synergies in Blood that it lost in Death.

Protective Bond.

No doubt about that, it made the skill quite useless, and with no good reason; protective spirit builds proved to be even better for farming.

Indeed. Nerfed and declared dead.
There were also many skills that were never really useful to begin with.

I see a nerf to splinter weapon incoming, it was already mentioned by Andrew Patrick that is being observed.
